IPL 2020: ‘It is bittersweet,’ KL Rahul on KXIP’s Super-Over defeat to DC

Mayank Agarwal's valiant knock helped KXIP tie the match before DC dominated the Super-Over.

Mayank Agarwal was the lone warrior with the bat for KXIP | IANSKL Rahul was a disappointed captain as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) suffered a defeat in the Super-Over against Delhi Capitals in the second game of IPL 2020 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 20).

Despite reeling at 55/5, KXIP rode on Mayank Agarwal’s 60-ball 89 to equal DC’s 157/8 in 20 overs. However, Delhi dominated the one-over eliminator.

Kagiso Rabada conceded only 2 runs and got rid of Rahul and Nicholas Pooran in the Super-Over while Rishabh Pant took just a couple of balls to knock off the runs.

"It is bittersweet. If at the end of 10 overs, if you had said this match is going to a Super-Over, I would have taken it. It's still our first game, so lots of learning,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

He also showered rich praise on Agarwal for his herculean effort with the bat.

"He (Mayank) was unbelievable and to get a game that close was magical. He's been doing well in Tests and to get the game that close again brings a lot of confidence in the group.

"Like I said at the toss, we didn't know what to expect. The wicket remains the same for both teams, so can't really complain. I will gladly take it as a captain whatever the result is. We stuck to what we planned but we did make a few mistakes. At 55 for five, we were calm and still positive," the KXIP skipper added.

Marcus Stoinis was the star of the match for the Capitals as he produced a stellar all-round showing, scoring 53 runs off just 21 balls and claiming 2/29 with the ball.

KXIP will face RCB in their next match on September 24 in Dubai while DC will take on CSK on September 25 at the same venue.
