IPL 2020: Cricket fraternity reacts as umpire’s wrong call on short run cost KXIP the match versus DC

This short run call resulted in KXIP ending up on same total as DC and the game went into Super-Over.

This short run call robbed KXIP of a win | TwitterDelhi Capitals (DC) edged past Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in a nail-biter to open their account in IPL 2020 with a Super-Over win at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 20).

Both the teams scored 157/8 in their stipulated 20 overs before the Capitals dominated the one-over eliminator. Kagiso Rabada conceded only 2 runs and got rid of KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran in the Super-Over while DC completed the formalities in just two deliveries.

For his 21-ball 53-run knock and 2/29 with the ball, Marcus Stoinis was adjudged Player-of-the-Match.

Despite it being a thriller, the game grabbed the headlines for an umpiring error which certainly cost Kings XI heavily.

During KXIP's chase, umpire Nitin Menon called a short run by Chris Jordan in the penultimate over when the latter and top-scorer Mayank Agarwal (89 off 60 balls) had put their team on the brink of victory.

However, a replay of that particular instance confirmed that Jordan had completed the run. The visuals also showed that Menon was not standing square on thus possibly missing out on spotting Jordan's bat going past the popping line as he turned for another run.

After the match, former cricketers took to Twitter and called out the umpiring blunder which proved costly for KXIP.
