Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) led by Virat Kohli will pay tribute to the COVID-19 frontline warriors through the #MyCovidHeroes initiative in the upcoming 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting on 19th September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

To acknowledge the efforts and honor the sacrifices made by the COVID-19 warriors, the RCB will sport the specially-customized jerseys that will have “My COVID Heroes” message inscribed on its back both during training and matches for the entire duration of the IPL 2020 in the UAE.

The RCB franchise will also come up with several initiatives to pay respect to the “Real Challengers” throughout the upcoming IPL 2020.

This includes supporting the GiveIndia Foundation by donating the earnings from the auction of the jerseys sported by the RCB stars during their first IPL 13 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 21st September in Dubai.

Kohli stated: “In the past few months, whenever I heard the stories of the COVID Heroes it has given me literal goosebumps. These real challenges have made the country proud and inspired all of us to be more persistent and dedicated to our efforts to build a better tomorrow.”

He further added, “I am truly proud to wear RCB's 'My COVID Heroes' jersey as a sign of solidarity and gratitude to everyone who is right now going the extra mile to support the community at large. They have batted day and night and fought on the field, and I am honored to call them my heroes.”

Meanwhile, the RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said of the initiative: “Royal Challengers Bangalore has always stood for playing bold in the face of adversities, and we believe that right now these COVID Heroes are embodying this purpose by relentlessly fighting for the greater good.”

Churiwala signed off by saying, “Humanity is going to be grateful to them for many generations to come, and through this campaign, we wanted to be among the first to pay tribute to their challenger spirit both on and off the field.”
