IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals’ coach Ricky Ponting picks Mumbai Indians’ most dangerous player

The IPL 2020 begins on September 19.

Rohit Sharma for MI | TwitterThe hype for the Indian Premier League or IPL 2020 is getting better and better as the time for the tournament opener nears. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will clash on September 19 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi and mark the start of the IPL 13.

Speaking of Mumbai Indians, they are not only the defending champions but have also won the tournament, the most times- 4.

Cricket Australia reached out to their former captain Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the Delhi Capitals’ franchise, and he picked one dangerous player from each of the franchises in a series of videos.

IPL 2020: "Rohit Sharma can score 500 runs if he opens for MI," says Aakash Chopra

When it came to picking one dangerous player from the Mumbai Indians team, Ponting looked no further than his former MI teammate Rohit Sharma. Sharma had taken over from Ponting as captain of the franchise in 2013 and led them to their maiden trophy that year.

Sharma is amongst the highest run-getters in the tournament and is the only player to win the IPL five times, with his first win coming in 2009 as part of the Deccan Chargers team.

Rohit has played 188 matches and made 4898 runs with one century and 36 half-centuries to his name. He averages 31.60 and has a strike rate of 130.82 while hitting 431 fours and 194 sixes.

He will be tasked with leading the team to glory once again, but in a place where they lost all the five matches, they played in UAE in IPL 2014 when the tournament’s first-half was moved due to general elections in India.
