IPL 2020: RCB’s Devdutt Padikkal feels great after multiple training sessions

Padikkal is carrying a sense of anticipation around him after a terrific domestic season.

Devdutt Padikkal | TwitterRoyal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) young batsman Devdutt Padikkal seems to have found his mojo back after a good two and half weeks of skills training ahead of the IPL 2020, starting September 19 in UAE.

Padikkal had an amazing domestic season last winter for Karnataka and thus he is carrying a sense of anticipation around him.

“Feels great as we are slowly getting back into it. There have been a good number of (net) sessions and we are feeling good like we were before lockdown,” Padikkal told RCB’s YouTube channel.

The southpaw was the top-scorer in last season’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In T20 cricket, he boasts an incredible strike rate of 175.5 and an average of 64 from 12 games. The 20-year-old also has a century and five fifties to his name in the shortest format.

Padikkal is also learnt to have impressed both skipper Virat Kohli and coach Mike Hesson.

“It’s more about movement, getting the legs moving quicker, getting the reactions faster again, the sessions were targeted on what we are doing and what we are aiming to achieve,” he further added.

Humid weather in UAE is a cause of concern for the players and Padikkal feels a lot of running has helped them gain endurance.

“We are getting used to the weather. We have had a few running sessions to get acclimatised to the weather. We can keep working on fitness and it will help us a lot,” he said.

RCB will start their IPL 2020 campaign against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
