Indian fast bowler S. Sreesanth is eager to “play cricket anywhere” after his seven-year ban ended on 13th September, as he is eying to represent the country in the 2023 World Cup to be held in India.
Sreesanth, who was part of India’s victorious campaign in the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup, also wishes to play at the Lord’s iconic ground in the match between the MCC and the Rest of the World.
The Kerala pacer also revealed that he is contacting agents in Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka to play club cricket in order to get as much as matches under his belt before stacking his claims for the India selection, as Kerala has already given a green signal to the cricketer for Ranji Trophy.
Sreesanth said: “I am speaking to agents in Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka as I want to play cricket at the club levels in these countries. My aim is to represent my country in the 2023 World Cup. Another wish is I want to play in a match at the Lords when the MCC plays the Rest of the World.”
Notably, the BCCI had banned Sreesanth for life in August 2013 for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL). However, a special court in Delhi cleared the pacer of all charges in 2015, but a division bench of the High Court restored the ban.
Then, Sreesanth moved the Supreme Court and challenged the order, and although, the apex court upheld his guilt but asked the BCCI to reduce his punishment. BCCI then reduced the 37-year-old’s life ban to seven years which ended on September 13, 2020.
He has so far played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India and taken 87, 75, and 7 wickets respectively.
