IPL 2020: ‘Missed IPL a lot, was going to be a big season for me’ – KXIP skipper KL Rahul

Kings XI Punjab had named Rahul as its skipper for the 13th edition of the league.

KL Rahul | IANSIndia batsman KL Rahul had started this year brilliantly during the tour of New Zealand and he was looking to carry forward the same form in IPL 2020 but cricket came to a grinding halt due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had named Rahul as its skipper for the 13th edition of the league, which was supposed to begin on March 29, but currently remains suspended “until further notice” owing to the deadly outbreak.

"I actually have missed the IPL a lot. It was going to be a big season for me captaining the team and I felt like we have got some really really exciting players in the line-up," Rahul told teammate Mayank Agarwal during the show 'Open Nets with Mayank' which was uploaded on IPL's official website.

"I was really looking forward to playing with Chris and you and Maxi and few other guys coming in."

Chris Gayle, who was also part of the video chat, was asked a similar question by Mayank and the Caribbean swashbuckler said this was the longest he has been at home.

"I am missing cricket as a whole to be honest. This is the longest I have ever been home. Normally, I would be away playing for some franchise," Gayle said.

"But for me this is the longest I have spent at home. It is life and this is just part of nature and we have to just accept it. Life goes on you know... can't complain much."

There is speculation that the BCCI is now eyeing October-November window for IPL 2020 if the T20 World Cup, slated to be played in Australia from October 18 to November 15, gets postponed due to travel restrictions in place in wake of the Coronavirus crisis.
