MS Dhoni honored as the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) captain in IPL history

Dhoni has led CSK to 3 IPL title wins in 8 finals with an overall win percentage of 60.11.

The jury on Star Sports’ flagship show called “Cricket Connected” has crowned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dhoni who has led the Chennai based franchise to three IPL titles has a win percentage of 60.11 proved to be too good as compared to Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. Apart from Dhoni and Rohit, Gautam Gambhir, Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, and David Warner were also part of the elite nominee list.

The 38-year-old was a superb captain in international cricket as well as under his captaincy, team India won the T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

Dhoni’s ability to finish off games saw Captain Cool as the leading run-scorer in the 2019 edition as the team ended up on the losing side in the finals. Speaking of IPL finals, Dhoni has led CSK to 8 finals as the team has qualified for the playoffs in all the editions of the IPL it has appeared in.

Thus, when it came to the greatest captain, former India pacer Ashish Nehra backed the former India skipper.

My pick for the greatest captain is MS Dhoni, under whose captaincy I have played the maximum, be it for the national team or in the IPL. I haven’t played under Rohit, so I choose MS Dhoni,” the left-arm pacer said.

Apart from Nehra, Sanjay Manjrekar, Daren Ganga, Scott Styris, Mike Hesson, Dean Jones, Russell Arnold, Simon Doull, and Graeme Smith were also part of the panel.
