Rishabh Pant is currently going through the torrid phase, as the young Indian wicket-keeper batsman has often been targeted on social media and receiving criticism by the national team management and cricket experts for his poor show on the field.

Whether be it batting or his job behind the stump, everything is nothing less than a disappointment for the rising star presently, as he has been constantly failing to deliver despite many opportunities, and even lost his spot in India’s Test XI after a string of poor displays.

Now, Pant has been targeted by critics even for a minor slip-up, a dropped catch, or a poor shot, which is building a lot of pressure on the wicket-keeper batsman after his another poor Bangladesh series at home.

While the 22-year-old would be definitely starting to feel that the universe has begun to work against him, but India batsman Pravin Amre believes that he need IPL lessons to rediscover his old touch with both bat and gloves at the international arena.

In the last IPL season, Pant came for Delhi Capitals after poor Australia series, but finished as the team’s second and seventh overall highest run-getter with 488 runs and Amre, who was DC’s assistant coach in the 2019 season, feels he must be handled like Ricky Ponting.

As per reports in Hindustan Times, Amre said of Pant: “He was coming after poor scores. It was mainly the way Chief Coach Ricky Ponting handled him and gave him the space to be himself. It is also about not trying too hard; we tried to ensure he didn’t fall into the trap by coming under pressure. We tried to keep it simple, break the game into small parts.”

While comparing Pant with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in terms of his timing with the bat, former international suggested him to focus on getting the timing right to get success.

He further explained, “He is like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, a great timer of the ball. He has to focus on getting it right. He seems to be confused how he should be going about it, whether to play the waiting game or his natural attacking game.”

Amre signed off by saying, “Most batsmen inflict maximum damage during the powerplay and death overs. Pant is equally devastating in the middle-overs, and that’s what makes him so special.”
