Kieron Pollard powered Mumbai Indians to a sensational 3 wickets win over Kings XI Punjab at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was Mumbai Indians' third win in a row and overall fourth win of this season.
Earlier after being asked to bat first, Kings XI Punjab openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul gave a strong 116 runs start to their team and set the platform for a big score. But after Chris Gayle's wicket, Kings XI Punjab couldn't score quick runs in next a few overs but in the end, KL Rahul smashed Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah and scored 38 runs in their two overs and also brought up his maiden IPL hundred. KL Rahul scored unbeaten 100 runs off 64 balls while Chris Gayle played 63 runs knock.
In reply, Mumbai Indians started off poorly and lost Siddhesh Lad, Suryakumar Yadav, and Quinton de Kock cheaply and reduced to 62/3 in 9 overs. In the last 11 overs, Mumbai Indians needed 136 runs and it was looking a very tough task but stand-in captain Kieron Pollard started playing his shots and smashed all Punjab bowlers and his 83 runs knock off just 31 balls had set the match before he got out in the final over. After Pollard's wicket, Mumbai needed 4 runs off 4 balls which Alzarri Joseph and Rahul Chahar scored and took their team home.
