Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted Mumbai Indians in the seventh match of the ongoing Indian Premier League at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday (March 28).

RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first. MI got off to a flying start as Rohit Sharma (48) and Quinton de Kock (23) added 54 runs in 6.3 overs. After the dismissal of openers, it was Yuvraj Singh who played a cameo of 12-ball 23 and shared a 37-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav (38) to put the visiting team in a strong position. Later in the innings, Hardik Pandya’s 14-ball 32 helped Mumbai to post a highlight competitive total of 187/8 on the board.

In reply, RCB lost Moeen Ali (13) when the score was 17. Batting at No. 3, captain Kohli looked in terrific touch from the outset. He hit Bumrah for three consecutive boundaries to get things going. Parthiv Patel also did his bit from the other end, scoring 31 runs off 22 balls.

After the dismissal of Parthiv, the dynamic duo of Virat and AB de Villiers took charge and added 49 runs between them. Kohli missed his fifty by four runs as Bumrah got rid of him with a short ball. Afterwards, De Villiers went berserk and smashed Lasith Malinga for 20 runs in the 16th over. Despite Shimron Hetmyer’s wicket in the 17th over off Bumrah, AB didn’t change his approach and smoked Hardik for 18 runs in the subsequent over.

However, things change in the penultimate over as Bumrah conceded only 5 runs and dismissed Colin de Grandhomme for 2. Needing 17 runs in the final over, Shivam Dube hit Malinga for six in the first ball but the veteran Sri Lanka pacer came back brilliantly and conceded only four runs in the next five deliveries.

De Villiers eventually remained unbeaten on 70 off 41 deliveries (4 fours and 6 sixes), but RCB fell six runs short of the target. For Mumbai, Bumrah finished with the bowling figures of 4-0-20-3.

Twitter experts were mighty impressed to see the remarkable bowling spell of Jasprit Bumrah against the star-studded RCB batting line-up.
