Delhi Capitals (earlier Delhi Daredevils) continued their overhaul process ahead of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League. After changing the name and logo, the Delhi-based franchise on Saturday (February 23) unveiled a new jersey for its players.
In their bid to have a completely different identity, DC will sport blue jersey in IPL 2019. Over the years, cricket fans have associated Delhi team and players with the combination of red and dark blue kit.
Taking to Twitter, Delhi Capitals posted a picture in which Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw can be seen posing by donning the brand new blue jersey.
“Yeh rahi #NayiDilliKiNayiJersey #DelhiIsBlue #ThisIsNewDelhi #DelhiCapitals,” the franchise wrote in the caption of the tweet.
Delhi had an underwhelming campaign in IPL 2018. They had managed to register only 5 wins out of the 14 matches and finished the league stage as the bottom-placed team.
Besides the disastrous season as a team, Delhi lost the services of Gautam Gambhir as captain midway as he stepped down from the job after playing only 6 matches. Moreover, Gambhir didn’t feature in the playing XI in the remaining 8 games.
After years of underachievement, the Delhi franchise is looking to make a fresh start in the cash-rich event. The squad has already been bolstered by the return of Dhawan, who was traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad prior the IPL 2019 auction.
