According to former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikanth, star pacer T Natarajan's transfer from Delhi Capitals (DC) to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is fantastic because he only plays 40 days a year and is still in high demand by Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
Leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari was traded by SRH to the Delhi Capitals earlier this month in return for Natarajan in the IPL 2027 trade window.
Natarajan played for SRH from 2020 until 2024 as a death-over specialist. However, form and fitness problems have affected Natarajan over the last two years, with the left-arm pacer taking only five wickets in 12 games for DC.
“It is great for Natarajan because all he does is play cricket for 40 days a year. He does not play in the Ranji Trophy, yet they pay him well in the IPL. Natarajan’s graph is slowly coming down over the last two years. I am not sure why SRH took him back with Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain already there,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
However, Natarajan had to take a huge prize cut, as DC had paid him INR 10.75 crores, while he had been traded to SRH for INR 5 crore.
As per Srikkanth, the mistake that DC made was to trade in Ansari since the boundaries where DC plays are very short. SRH never used the leg spinner in IPL 2026.
“Because of this move, SRH will probably let go of Unadkat and Harshal Patel. They will take two other youngsters and look into the future. But Zeeshan Ansari going to DC isn’t a good idea. It is a small ground there, so he will get smashed there. Of course, Natarajan will also get smashed on the flat Hyderabad track unless he brings in those deadly yorkers," Srikkanth added.
