‘No pressure anymore, it's all about enjoying myself’- Harmanpreet Kaur keen to relish batting post captaincy

Harmanpreet Kaur had stepped down as India captain before the Zimbabwe series.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the Player of the Match for her 91* | BCCI XAfter scoring an unbeaten 91 runs to help India beat Zimbabwe in the third and final T20I in Raipur, Harmanpreet Kaur explained how eager she was to enjoy this particular phase of her cricketing life without too much pressure after stepping down from her position as captain of the Indian team.

Captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and chose to bat first. Shafali Verma slammed 69 in 37 balls, while Mandhana made 28, adding 54 runs for the first wicket. But the star of the Indian innings was ex-skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who smashed 91* in 41 balls with 10 fours and 5 sixes, powering 216/7 in 20 overs.

In response, Zimbabwe women made 124/7, with Sharne Mayers top-scoring with 60 runs, losing the game by 92 runs and the series 0-3 to India.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the Player of the Match for her amazing knock and stated that the pressure on her is very low with her stepping down as India's captain, and now she wants to enjoy her batting.

"I don't think there is any pressure anymore. I think now it's all about enjoying myself on the field, and I think that's what I want to do. I definitely enjoy myself in the middle, and this is what I'm here for. I just want to enjoy my batting, and good luck to those runs that came,” Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation, as quoted by Cricinfo.

Harmanpreet was under pressure, having gone eight innings without a half-century before this match. However, in the third T20I against Zimbabwe, Harmanpreet Kaur gained confidence as her innings progressed, eventually hitting a significant score.

"I think the first [second] ball when I hit for a four, that time I realized it's a good pitch and the bat was coming nicely to the ball. I think I got a lot of confidence from that shot, and then I just thought, "Let me just keep going, and let's see how it goes,” she added.

Harmanpreet noted that she felt more at ease at the crease without the extra pressure of a game situation thanks to the training done at the nets.

“I think bat swing is something you know, which is my key, and I just want to keep repeating that in the nets, and I think again I just want to give credit to my batting coach, Himanshu Bhaiya, who has been working really hard and understood the kind of batting I can do. Every time we meet, when we spend time in the nets, he just wants me to keep feeling that same pressure in the nets so that when I am playing the match, I should not feel any extra pressure. I think his tactics and his thoughts work really well,” Harmanpreet added.

The two sides will now clash in a series of three ODIs, with all of the games to be played in Baroda, starting from October 23.
