MS Dhoni set to gain major responsibility in CSK franchise after Stephen Fleming’s exit- Report

MS Dhoni missed the IPL 2026 due to a calf injury.

MS Dhoni | CSK XAfter Stephen Fleming exited from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) following his 18 years as head coach, the focus has shifted to legendary MS Dhoni. Reports have stated that Fleming’s exit had Dhoni’s seal of approval.

And RevSportz has reported a source stating that the five-time IPL-winning ex-CSK captain will have a significant role in picking Fleming’s successor. This happened as CSK’s poor record in the IPL in recent times, given that they haven’t reached the playoffs since their title triumph in 2023.

MS Dhoni, who remains with the CSK as a player and was retained by the franchise for INR 4 crores, didn’t play a single game in IPL 2026 due to injuries. However, the report claimed that Dhoni may become the team mentor for the franchise.

It could occur during the upcoming season or at the beginning of the next cycle in 2028. However, insiders claim that Dhoni will be handed command of the cricket side of things even in the absence of an official title.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni was recently seen enjoying the India v England white-ball series in England. He was seen in the stadium on his birthday on July 7 enjoying a T20I and, most recently, was seen watching the first ODI between the two sides in Birmingham on July 14. Dhoni was there with his wife, Sakshi, and daughter Ziva, enjoying the match from the stands.

MS Dhoni is one of the most successful players in IPL, with 5439 runs in 278 games at a strike rate of 137.45, hitting 24 fifties. He also has 158 catches and 47 stumpings to his name, apart from hitting 375 fours and 264 sixes.
