Mumbai Indians (MI) might have been eliminated from the race for IPL 2026 playoffs, but now they are making things difficult for other teams as well. The best example of this was their 6-wicket win over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 14 in Dharamshala.
PBKS was asked to bat first, and Prabhsimran Singh made 57, while Priyansh Arya (22) and Cooper Connolly (21) gave support. While the middle order failed, Azmatullah Omarzai (38), Vishnu Vinod (15* in 8 balls), and Xavier Bartlett (18* in 7 balls) took PBKS to 200/8 in 20 overs.
In response, Rohit Sharma struggled a bit with 25 runs in 26 balls, but Ryan Rickelton’s 23-ball 48 runs took care of that. The best knock came from Tilak Varma, who made 75* in 33 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes. He got support from Sherfane Rutherford and Will Jacks, who made 25* in 10 balls.
MI won the game by 6 wickets with one ball to spare.
Acknowledging that it wasn't his greatest day, Rohit used the chance to make fun of himself in the dressing room. MI's social media accounts showed the opener trolling his own sluggish innings, which ultimately resulted in an MI victory.
“It was a great win. It was a complete team effort. With the bat, it was good to see everyone chip in while I was enjoying my bit of Test cricket,” said Rohit cheekily, earning a few laughs from across the dressing room.
However, he praised his fellow opener Ryan Rickelton for taking care of the need for a quick start at the top in the chase of a 200-plus target.
“Rick, as always, has been doing. It was great to watch because that start for us was important. It was not an easy pitch, but the way we played, I think that start gave us that momentum to take the innings forward,” he added.
