Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a 32-run defeat in their IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on Tuesday (April 14).

Asked to bat first, CSK posted 192/5 on the board, powered by Sanju Samson (48), Dewald Brevis (41), and Ayush Mhatre (38).

In reply, KKR struggled to keep up with the required rate, finishing at 160/7. Ramandeep Singh (35) and Rovman Powell (31*) provided some late resistance, but the game was already out of reach.

This outcome left KKR rooted to the bottom of the points table. In five matches, they are yet to register a win, with four losses and one no result.

After their latest defeat, former India opener Virender Sehwag criticized KKR for their ₹25.2 crore purchase of Cameron Green in the 2026 IPL auction, labeling the Australian all-rounder a "liability" due to poor form and limited bowling.

Green has managed to score only 56 runs and claim one wicket in five outings so far. He didn’t bowl in the first three matches while managing his back injury.

“If you had that much money and still bought these players, spending Rs 25-27 crore on Cameron Green, then now he has become a liability. If you play him, he isn’t performing," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

“If you don’t play him, people will question why you spent so much money and then bench him. But there is no shame in accepting a mistake. Just admit it, that you made a mistake by spending so much on Cameron Green," he added.

Sehwag suggested that opener Seifert should be brought into the KKR playing XI to replace Green, with Finn Allen opening the innings alongside him.

He also called for incorporating Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh, while pushing young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi further down the order.

“So I feel you should bench him and play Tim Seifert instead. Recently, you saw him perform well for New Zealand. Those same two openers played aggressive innings," Sehwag stated.

“Bring both of them in and let them open. Then bring Ajinkya Rahane at number three, Powell at four and push Raghavanshi further down. That way, if Rahane gets out, Raghavanshi can come in and if someone else gets out, then Powell or Rinku can come in," he remarked.
