Cameron Green is expected to resume his all-round duties by bowling for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL 2026 fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens on Thursday (April 9).
Acquired for ₹25.20 crore, the Australian all-rounder has not bowled in the ongoing IPL so far due to lower back issues managed by Cricket Australia. He managed only 24 runs in KKR’s first three matches while playing as a specialist batter, prompting fans and experts to question his place in the side.
After KKR failed to defend 220 runs in their campaign opener against MI, skipper Ajinkya Rahane was asked why Green did not bowl. He responded bluntly, saying: "That’s the question you need to ask to Cricket Australia."
Subsequently, a CA spokesperson clarified that Green is managing a lower back injury and rebuilding his bowling loads, while also claiming that the franchise was aware of this plan.
"Cameron has a lower-back injury, which is being managed, but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period. Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days' time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information," CA said in a statement released on March 30.
According to a recent report published in ESPNCricinfo, Cameron Green is ready to bowl in a competitive situation.
Notably, Green has resumed bowling in the nets, and KKR bowling coach Tim Southee recently indicated that the Aussie man was "not far away" from returning to his full all-rounder role.
“We’re in regular contact with Cricket Australia and I’m sure we’ll see Cameron bowling soon. I’m sure he’s not far away from bowling in a match,” Southee said in a press conference on April 5.
Meanwhile, KKR have issued an update on Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy after the spin duo missed the last match against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on April 6.
The franchise confirmed that Narine has returned to training and participated in practice sessions ahead of the LSG match while Chakaravarthy remains sidelined due to a finger injury, with no clear timeline for his return.
"Sunil Narine had some abdominal pain, which caused him to miss the last game, but he has recovered well. He was at training yesterday and today, so he looks good. Varun has a finger injury; the exact update on that will be known later," a KKR spokesperson said.
KKR are winless after their first three games in the IPL 2026. While the three-time champions lost to MI and SRH, their fixture against PBKS got abandoned due to rain.
