Delhi Capitals co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi stated why the franchise decided to re-sign Prithvi Shaw during the IPL 2026 mini auction. Shaw was first signed by DC in 2018 after captaining India to victory in the U-19 World Cup.
Shaw, regarded as one of the DC’s brightest potential prospects, played seven seasons with the team before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shaw played 79 matches for DC in IPL and scored 1892 runs for the franchise during his first stint.
Last season, none of the teams were interested in adding the now-Maharashtra batter to their squads, and he received no bids despite a basic fee of INR 75 lakhs.
Shaw couldn’t find any buyer in the initial two rounds of the IPL 2026 auction and the subsequent accelerated rounds. However, the Delhi Capitals finally placed a bid for him in the final round and bought him for his base price.
Speaking after the auction, DC’s Grandhi stated that this was an opportunity for Shaw to make a successful comeback in the IPL. The DC co-owner expressed his hope that Shaw will take this second opportunity seriously and give his all for the team.
“Prithvi has done well for Delhi Capitals in the past. Every player goes through ups and downs, and this is an opportunity for him to make a strong comeback. We see this as a second chance for Prithvi, and I’m really looking forward to seeing him return to Delhi, take this opportunity seriously, and give his best for the team,” said Grandhi, as quoted by India Today.
Kiran Kumar Grandhi was pleased with the choices that the Delhi Capitals made in the IPL 2026 auction and stated that they covered all the bases, forming a well-balanced squad for the upcoming IPL season.
“We went into the auction with a clear plan and were able to secure most of the players we had identified. We targeted experienced overseas batters like David Miller and Ben Duckett, which helped us strengthen those slots, while also investing in the future with a young talent like Sahil Parakh. Additionally, we selected a very promising bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, Auqib, who has been performing consistently. Overall, I believe we’ve covered most bases and built a strong, well-balanced squad. If we play as a unit, show courage on the field, and make the most of our opportunities, we have a very good chance this season. Our fans deserve nothing less,” said Grandhi.
