IND v WI 2026: WATCH- Tilak Varma’s bizarre dismissal in Indore T20I; gets run out after assuming the ball crossed the boundary

India posted 223 runs in 20 overs after being asked to bat first by West Indies.

Tilak Varma | XIndia batter Tilak Varma suffered a bizarre dismissal in the recent second T20I against the West Indies on October 11, 2026. This game is being played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, and the West Indies captain, Shao Hope, won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 69 off 30 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes, while Ishan Kishan (37), Tilak Varma (28), and the contributions of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel took India to 223 in 20 overs. Roston Chase, Shamar Joseph, and Shamar Springer picked two wickets each.

However, the talk of the Indian innings was Tilak Varma’s run-out in a bizarre manner. The incident happened in the 17th over, as Axar Patel hit a full delivery by Gudakesh Motie towards the mid-wicket boundary. The ball raced towards the boundary ropes, and the batters basically stopped running, assuming the ball had crossed the ropes.

However, the West Indies players were wise to that and tried a run-out from both ends, with the third umpire ruling Tilak well short of the crease. The team took a single like usual but began walking back for some discussion, in a bid for the two since they thought it would be for four runs.

They even fist-bumped, and as Axar walked back to his crease, the ball was thrown back, and wicketkeeper Shai Hope made a run-out effort from his end and then threw the ball to Motie.

As could be seen in the third umpire’s video replay, Axar just barely managed to get back into his crease, but when Motie knocked the bails off, Tilak was nowhere near the crease. Axar gave an almost amused look when the decision came in, but head coach Gautam Gambhir looked anything but pleased in the dugout.
