IND v WI 2026: Cricket fraternity reacts as Shai Hope’s 102* helps West Indies defeat India by 6 wickets in record chase

Abhishek Sharma (20) and Sanju Samson scored 42 runs together for the opening wicket in 4 overs. Ishan Kishan (37) and Samson then contributed 97 runs for the second wicket. Shivam Dube was dismissed for 7 runs, but Samson anchored the Indian innings with a brilliant 82 off 41 deliveries, including 9 fours and 4 sixes.

It seemed that the West Indies had regained control when Samson got dismissed with India at 162 in 15 overs. However, Shreyas Iyer (40) and Tilak Varma (44*) propelled India to a total of 249/5 in 20 overs. Roston Chase stood out among the bowlers, claiming 3/24, whereas Shamar Joseph secured two wickets.

In response, Mayank Yadav gave a brilliant start to India, dismissing Kamil Pooran for 4 and Shimron Hetmyer for a golden duck in the first over itself. Shai Hope, who has been in excellent form on this India tour, held up one end, while Rovman Powell smashed 24 in 13 balls.

However, the partnership that took the game away from India was between Hope and Sherfane Rutherford. They added 120 runs for the 4th wicket, with Rutherford hammering 84 with 7 fours and 7 sixes.

While India got a reprieve when Rutherford got out, Romario Shepherd smashed 34* in 13 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Hope finished the game by reaching his century as well. He scored 102* in 45 balls with 6 fours and 9 sixes. The West Indies won the second T20I by 6 wickets and leveled the five-game series 1-1. Mayank Yadav was the best bowler for India, taking 3/36.

This was West Indies’ highest successful run chase in T20Is, and Indian bowlers looked helpless due to heavy due at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
