Mohammed Siraj narrowly escaped a serious injury because of teammate Gurnoor Brar’s wild throw during the third ODI between India and the West Indies in New Chandigarh on Saturday (October 3).
The scary yet ultimately funny incident occurred in the 7th over of West Indies' chase when Amir Jangoo pushed a delivery from Siraj down the deck toward mid-on and set off for a quick single.
Siraj had dived to his left during his follow-through to try and stop the ball, leaving him flat on the ground. Brar quickly ran in to collect the ball and attempted a rapid shy at the stumps. However, the ball slipped out of his hand, sending a wild, high-pace throw directly at Siraj's head.
Siraj was forced to take immediate evasive action, dropping his head flat to the turf as the ball flew dangerously close past him.
Once it was clear that Siraj was safe and completely unhurt, the tense atmosphere immediately broke. Veteran opener Rohit Sharma, standing at slip, was left in splits at the bizarre scene, while a stunned Siraj sat up on the pitch realizing how close he had come to being hit.
The cameras also caught Rohit and Virat Kohli discussing the incident and bursting into laughter.

Coming to the match, India were reduced to 4/2 in the first three overs when they lost Shubman Gill (1) and Virat Kohli (0) off consecutive deliveries from Jayden Seales (3/45).
However, KL Rahul's unbeaten 129 and half-centuries from Rohit Sharma (92) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (57) took India to a massive 351/7 in 50 overs.
Having won the first two ODIs in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati, India have already gained an unassailable lead in the series. After posting a score in excess of 350, they are in a dominant position to secure a 3-0 series sweep.
