Veteran India opener Rohit Sharma smashed his 35th ODI century off just 72 balls against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday (September 30).
In the process, Rohit also completed 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, becoming only the third Indian to reach this milestone after Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
Despite speculation over his future in the format turning rife during India’s tour to England in July, Rohit retained his spot in the top-order for the West Indies series and silenced his critics with a blistering ton in the second ODI.
Sharma notched up the three-figure mark with a single off left-arm spinner Vitel Lawes in the 26th over of India’s chase. He pulled off a high-knee kind of jog while completing the run, marking his unique celebration upon reaching the landmark.

Rohit Sharma was eventually dismissed LBW by Jayden Seales in the 27th over for 101 off 75 balls. His knock featured 10 fours and 6 sixes. During this knock, he also brought up 200 ODI sixes on home soil.
Cricket fraternity showered rich praise on Rohit for producing a batting masterclass in India’s pursuit of a mammoth 406-run chase.
