Veteran Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has begun prep for the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies at home. Rohit Sharma last featured for India in the ODI series against England, where he scored a century in the third and final match at Lord’s.
The three-match West Indies ODIs will be played from September 27 onwards.
Rohit Sharma, 39, continues to silence detractors with impressive performances despite ongoing concerns about whether his age would allow him to play in the 2027 World Cup.
He scored 138 runs, becoming the first Indian to score a century in ODIs at the venue, though India lost the game and the series as well.
Rohit Sharma’s social media team, 'Team Ro', posted a video from the Center of Excellence (CoE) of the batter showing his batting in the nets. He can be seen playing both the conventional shots and the unconventional ones as well.
Despite the BCCI selectors wanting to move on from Rohit Sharma, the BCCI has stood with the ex-captain. Board secretary Devajit Saikia backed former captain Rohit Sharma, highlighting his consistent performances and dismissing speculation surrounding the veteran batter’s retirement.
Saikia said he didn't want to add to the rumors. With the seasoned batter getting close to 40, Rohit Sharma's path to the 2027 ODI World Cup has recently come under criticism.
With 379 runs in nine innings at an average of 42.11 and a strike rate of over 99, including a ton and a fifty with a top score of 138, Rohit has seen some ups and downs in ODIs this year.
