KL Rahul brought an end to a 9-year drought as he brought up only his second Test hundred in India on day two of the ongoing first Test between India and the West Indies, being played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
India resumed their India resumed the second day of the first Test at 121/2 with Rahul (53*) and Shubman Gill (18*) at the crease. Shubman Gill hit a fifty in his first Test innings as captain in India, but was then removed for 50.
KL Rahul continued on and played some amazing strokes and brought up his century in 190 balls. This was his 11th Test ton and only his second in India, after his 199 against England in Chennai in 2016.
Rahul now has 10 Test centuries as an opener for India, surpassing former captain Rohit Sharma and current India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who each have nine centuries at the top of the order. Only Sunil Gavaskar (33), Virender Sehwag (22), and Murali Vijay (12) have more hundreds than Rahul among Indian openers.
Rahul was dismissed by Jomel Warrican immediately after the lunch break on Day 2 of the first test. He returned to the pavilion with 100 off 197 balls, including 12 boundaries.
His knock was rightfully lauded on social media by members of the cricket fraternity, and here are some of the posts.
