India and South Africa will face off in the first one-day international of the three-match series on November 30, 2025, at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. KL Rahul leads India in the absence of regular captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who are both injured.
Temba Bavuma also missed out after Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bowl first. India included Ruturaj Gaikwad at number four, with Yashasvi Jaiswal beginning the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. India's bowling attack featured three spinners and three pacers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal seemed in fantastic form, scoring 18 in 16 balls with two fours and one six, until Nandre Burger caught him. This brought Virat Kohli to the crease, and the star batsman seemed comfortable from the start.
Rohit Sharma was taking his time at the other end and helped Kohli go after the bowlers from the start. Virat Kohli hammered the pacers for sixes easily, and Rohit Sharma took care of the spinners. Rohit Sharma even broke the record for most sixes in ODIs (351), previously held by Shahid Afridi of Pakistan.
Virat Kohli reached his fifty-first off 48 balls, and Rohit Sharma followed shortly in 43 balls. The duo added 136 runs for the second wicket in 106 balls. The partnership ended when Rohit Sharma fell to Marco Jansen for 57 runs in 51 balls with five fours and three sixes.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the two seniormost batters in the Indian ODI lineup—Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma—and lauded their partnership on social media.
