India Test captain Shubman Gill remains doubtful for the second and final Test of the series against South Africa. This match will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 onwards. South Africa leads the series 1-0 after a terrific 30-run win in Kolkata while defending 123 runs.
Shubman Gill was the focus of day one as he retired hurt due to a stiff neck after facing three deliveries and was later admitted to a local hospital for treatment. He didn’t take any part in the remainder of the test, with Rishabh Pant assuming the captaincy duties as the designated vice-captain.
Shubman Gill was released from the hospital on Sunday and is recovering at the team hotel in Kolkata. Gill was admitted for scans, an MRI, and a regular examination; she remained under observation overnight and is recovering well.
The Indian squad remained in Kolkata after the first Test concluded in three days and has arranged an optional practice session for Tuesday.
According to the original itinerary, the squad will depart for Guwahati on Wednesday, and while Gill's participation has yet to be confirmed, she may accompany the team. In the worst-case scenario, the captain may leave the next day, on Thursday.
The BCCI medical staff is still keeping an eye on the 26-year-old, and if there are no late warning signs, he might play in the series' second and final Test.
But at this point, Gill's involvement is uncertain. In the coming days, a 50/50 decision will be made. He is still being monitored, and doctors have recommended that he relax for the time being.
