Ace South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada’s availability for the second Test against India remains in doubt after he pulled out of the ongoing first Test in Kolkata due to a rib injury. While the first Test is being played at the Eden Gardens, the second Test will be played in Guwahati from November 22 onwards.
Rabada was hurt on Tuesday during the first training session. His last-minute withdrawal at Eden Gardens was the result of more medical examinations.
“KG (Kagiso Rabada) sustained the injury during the first training session on Tuesday. He underwent a scan on Wednesday morning and a fitness test this morning. He experienced discomfort and was ultimately ruled out of the game," the team media manager stated as per News18 CricketNext.
When asked about his chances of returning for the second Test in Guwahati on November 22, the manager replied, “He is still undergoing further assessments with the medical team."
Rabada's participation was in doubt until Friday morning, according to the Proteas. Due to his absence, Corbin Bosch joined seam bowling all-rounder Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen in the starting lineup for his fourth Test.
On the first day of their tour to India, South Africa chose to bat first after winning a decent toss. South Africa was bowled out for 159 with Jasprit Bumrah taking 5/27 and Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav taking two wickets each.
In response, India’s innings ended at 189 runs with Shubman Gill retiring hurt due to a neck injury. KL Rahul top-scored with 39 and Washington Sundar made 29, while Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja made 27 each. Simon Harmer picked 4/30, while Marco Jansen took three wickets for South Africa.
