The Sanju Samson–Ravindra Jadeja swap deal between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been completed, the IPL confirmed on Saturday (November 15) morning, hours before the retention deadline.
As part of the agreement, Samson will join CSK while the Royals will receive the services of Jadeja and Sam Curran.
Samson moved to CSK at his existing fee of ₹18 crore while Jadeja took a salary cut to return to his former franchise. The seasoned all-rounder’s league fee has now been revised from ₹18 crore to ₹14 crore.
On the other hand, England all-rounder Curran will join RR at his existing league fee of ₹2.4 crore.
CSK will be Samson's third franchise of his IPL career. Since making his IPL debut in 2013, the 31-year-old represented RR in all but two seasons—2016 and 2017—when he played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
On the day of biding adieu, Sanju Samson penned an emotional message for the Royals family on social media.
"We are only here for a short period of time. Gave MY everything to this franchise, enjoyed some great cricket, made some lifetime relations, treated everyone in the franchise as my family.. And when its time..I AM moving On. Shall always be grateful for everything @rajasthanroyals," Sanju wrote on Instagram.
Samson shared another Instagram post, in which he was seen sporting a yellow top and a wrist band. He simply wrote 'Vanakkam' which means 'Welcome' in Tamil, showing his excitement on joining CSK for the upcoming IPL season.
One of the most experienced players in the league, Sanju Samson has featured in 177 IPL matches, scoring 4704 runs at a strike rate of 139.04 with three hundreds and 26 half-centuries.
