Virat Kohli had a pleasant surprise ahead of the first ODI between India and New Zealand that was played in Baroda on January 11. Kohli got to meet some little fans of his, and one of the fans caught the eyes of everyone, including Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Kohli met a young fan who bore an uncanny resemblance to him when he was little. Videos of the interaction quickly went viral, becoming one of the talking points of India’s four-wicket win.
Kohli then followed it up with a superb 93-run innings to lead India home, but the "Chhota Chiku" moment captivated fans online. The fan later explained how the discussion occurred.
“Maine ekbar unka naam liya. Meri taraf dekha and Hi kaarke bola ki ‘thodi der me aata hoon’. Virat Kohli fir Rohit Sharma se bol raha tha ki ‘oye udhar dekh mera duplicate baitha hai’, Chhota chiku bol raha tha. (I called him by his name once. He looked at me, smiled, and said he’d come in a bit. Then he told Rohit Sharma, ‘Look over there, my duplicate is sitting’, and started calling me Chhota Chiku),” the fan stated in an interview with Gujarati media.
Coming to the first ODI in Baroda, New Zealand was asked to bat first by India captain Shubman Gill, and thanks to half-centuries by Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, and Henry Nicholls, posted 300/8 in 50 overs.
In response, Shubman Gill made 56 and Virat Kohli made 93, and Shreyas Iyer made 49 as India won the game by four wickets. India went up 1-0 in the three-ODI series, and the second ODI will be played in Rajkot on January 14.
