IND v NZ 2024: Indian cricket fraternity stunned as India loses Mumbai Test; gets whitewashed at home in Tests after 24 years

India has slipped to second spot in WTC 2025 points table, below Australia after NZ series loss.

Team India | AFPIndia’s impeccable record in Tests at home took a severe hit in the past week or so as they first lost their first Test series at home after 12 years and now, they suffered their first Test series whitewash after 24 years.

This happened after New Zealand won the third and final Test against India in Mumbai on Sunday by 25 runs to defeat India in the Test series 3-0.

Set 147 runs to win the Test and salvage some pride, Indian batters were outclassed by New Zealand spinners. Apart from Rohit Sharma, who got out to Matt Henry, the rest of the Indian batters fell to spinners Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips.

Patel picked 6 wickets and a total of 11 wickets in the Test, while Phillips took 3 scalps as India was bowled out for 121 runs. For India, Rishabh Pant top-scored with 62 in 57 balls and while he was at the crease, he helped India recover from 29/5 and took them to 106/7.

However, the rest of the lower order couldn’t hang on enough to eke out the remaining runs and New Zealand romped home to create history by winning the Test and the Test series.

This is the first time New Zealand white-washed India in a Test series in India and the first time since 2000, that India got white-washed at home.

The embarrassing outcome of the Test series that India was primed to win 3-0, got some angry and sad reactions on social media. The cricket fraternity couldn’t digest the fact that India got whitewashed by New Zealand, who came into the series after a 2-0 Test series loss in Sri Lanka.
