The second day of the ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand being played in Bengaluru has not been a happy one for hosts. Rohit Sharma, India captain won the toss and chose to bat first despite cloud cover and bowler friendly pitch.
It resulted in India getting bowled out for 46 runs, their lowest Test total at home. Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) and Rishabh Pant (20) were the only ones to double figures as five batters made ducks for India. Matt Henry with 5/15 and Will O’Rourke (4/22) routed Indian batting.
The incident involving Rohit and Sarfaraz showed the hostile mood inside the Indian team. Rohit's outburst came as India was desperately looking for early wickets against New Zealand's opening pair of Tom Latham and Devon Conway, who were methodically building a partnership.
Given India's low total, early breakthroughs were critical, but the Indian fielders appeared to be nervous, reflecting the pressure.
Rohit is visibly frustrated with Sarfaraz's fielding. As the pressure increased, India's chances of turning things around were minimal, with the New Zealand openers standing firm at the conclusion of a dreadful day for the hosts.
The event occurred while Tom Latham and Devon Conway were in the midst. Rohit became irritated and yelled. The audio isn't clear, but remarks indicate he may have lost his cool with Sarfaraz Khan. While India is absolutely on the back foot, the video is going viral.
