IND v NZ 2024: Rohit Sharma to take a call on India’s playing XI at the last minute due to rain threat in Bengaluru

Rain is predicted to play a part in all five days of the Test match in Bengaluru.

On the eve of the series, India skipper Rohit Sharma addressed a press conference, where he revealed that the team management is still undecided on their playing XI for the opening Test due to the weather conditions.

However, Rohit confirmed that India will play at least two spinners in the series opener and might go with three spinners depending on the conditions. Rain is predicted to play a part in all five days of the Test match in Bengaluru.

"It all depends on the conditions. Today it has been raining. The pitch is under covers. We will take a call tomorrow morning on 3 pacers or 2 pacers and our best-playing XI. We are keeping our options open," Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.

India pulled off a remarkable seven-wicket victory in the recently held Kanpur Test against Bangladesh despite two days of play being washed out.

Rohit said India were not set on just one approach and adaptability will be a crucial aspect of their game.

"We'll see how the days pan out. Then we will take a call. In Kanpur, we didn't get the game on two days and then decided to go for the win. I don't know what it is going to be here. We'll see what lies ahead of us and then take a call. We want to try and win games," he added.

A day earlier, India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke about maintaining a "high risk, high reward" strategy in Test cricket.

"Why do we need to hold on to people? If they can play the natural game, if they can get 400-500 runs in a day, why not? We will play it that way -- high risk, high reward, high risk, high failure," Gambhir told reporters.

"There will be days when we'll get bundled out for 100 and we'll take it up then. But we'll continue to back our players to go out there and play high risk cricket. That's how we want to keep the game going forward and get the results in whatever situation we are in."
