Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain was on cloud nine, after the Men in Blue thrashed England by 142 runs in the third ODI in Ahmedabad and clean swept the three-match series 3-0. This was the perfect practice India needed ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Jos Buttler, England's captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first. England made one change to their playing XI, with Tom Banton replacing Jamie Overton.

India made three changes: Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja were rested, and Varun Chakaravarthy suffered a calf injury. Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar took their positions in the XI.

Rohit Sharma's return to form was cut short when he was caught behind for one run in the match's second over. However, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli (52) scored 116 runs for the second wicket. Kohli was dismissed shortly after reaching 50 runs.

Shubman Gill carried on at the other end, scoring a magnificent century, his seventh for India in ODIs. Gill took 95 balls to reach three figures, hitting 14 fours and two sixes. He also added 104 runs for the third wicket alongside Shreyas Iyer, who scored 78.

India managed 356 runs in 50 overs. For England, Adil Rashid took 4 wickets, while Mark Wood took 2 scalps.

England started well with a 60-run opening stand between Ben Duckett (34) and Phil Salt (23). But barring Tom Banton (38) and some lusty hitting by Gus Atkinson (38), none of the England batters got going in the way they needed in the chase of 356 runs.

England was bowled out for 214 and lost the game by 142 runs. For India, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya picked two wickets apiece.

India captain Rohit Sharma was ecstatic with the Ahmedabad ODI win and series 3-0 and said that the team achieved what they wanted from the series.

“Very very pleasing (with the way the series went). We knew there will be challenges that we could face. I mean there is nothing I could have done about that (the ball that got rid of him today). Credit to the bowler and the bowler is there to get you out and you are there as a batter to challenge that. Just nicked the ball,the  second ball I was facing and couldn't have done anything about that.

I don't see there was anything wrong we did this series. Obviously there are certain things we are looking at (to improve) and I am not going to stand here and explain those,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.

Rohit Sharma also talked about the players in the team having the freedom to express their game like they did in the World Cup and said that he would like them to continue doing the same going forward.

“It is our job as well to keep some consistency within the squad and the communication is clear. Obviously any champion team wants to get better every game and move forward from there. Very happy with the score (at the break). There is a bit of freedom in the squad to go out there and play the way you want. The World Cup was a perfect example of that and we want to continue to do that. There will be times it will not fall in place but that's okay,” he signed off.
