IND v ENG 2025: “Before an important tournament like Champions Trophy…,” Jadeja calls Rohit’s ton in 2nd ODI a huge boost

Rohit, who was under scrutiny for his string of low scores in the last five months, took the English bowling attack to the cleaners at the Barabati Stadium.

Chasing 305 to win, the right-hander launched a brutal assault on the visiting bowlers right from the word go. He notched up his half-century off 30 balls and stitched a 136-run opening stand with Shubman Gill to put India in a commanding position.

While Gill was dismissed for 60 off 52 balls, Rohit continued his carnage and reached the three-figure mark in 76 deliveries. The Indian captain smashed leg-spinner Adil Rashid over long-off for a big six to bring up his 32nd ton in the 50-over format.

Rohit was dismissed by Liam Livingstone in the 30th over for 119 off 90 balls, including 12 boundaries and 7 sixes. At the time of his dismissal, India needed 85 runs off 122 deliveries and the likes of Shreyas Iyer (44) and Axar Patel (41*) returned with vital knocks to seal the deal in 44.3 overs.

After the game, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja said that Rohit Sharma’s century in the second ODI against England was a huge confidence booster for the captain and the Indian team before the Champions Trophy.

"Sometimes, it just takes one or two innings to turn things around. The good thing is that, before an important tournament like the Champions Trophy, scoring a hundred is a huge boost. It’s great for the team, and obviously, he himself knows his game well. There’s nothing much to think or discuss," Jadeja said in the post-match presser.

Jadeja also stated that playing domestic matches has helped him get back in shape for the ODI series against England.

The spin all-rounder claimed three scalps in Nagpur and followed it up with another three-wicket haul in Cuttack. He came into the series after playing for Saurashtra in their Ranji Trophy matches against Assam and Delhi.

“Playing the domestic matches helped as the number of overs I sent down helped me get into rhythm. After almost two years I am playing ODIs and was trying bowl same lines and lengths as Test matches,” Jadeja added.

Having won the second ODI in Cuttack, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third ODI will be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 12).
