The second ODI between India and England will be played in Cuttack on February 9, 2025, with England winning the toss and opting to bat first. Both teams made significant changes.
England included Mark Wood, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson, while India replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal with Virat Kohli, and Varun Chakaravarthy made his ODI debut in place of Kuldeep Yadav.
England's openers Phil Salt (26) and Ben Duckett (65) combined 81 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs. Joe Root and Harry Brook (31) combined to add 66 runs for the third wicket before Brook was brilliantly caught by Shubman Gill.
Harshit Rana looked in good rhythm and bowled at a brisk pace, but then his mistake cost India four runs and he copped an earful from India captain Rohit Sharm as well.
The incident occurred on the fifth delivery of the 32nd over when Harshit's overreaction resulted in an unnecessary four, which can be costly.
Rana produced a length delivery, which Buttler returned to the bowler, who retrieved it beautifully but didn't stop there. He flung the ball furiously back at the stumps, but it missed the stumps and sailed straight to the boundary, resulting in an overthrow.
As Harshit walked back to his mark with a sheepish smile on his face, Rohit, who was not pleased with the unnecessary aggression, had a few words to say to Harshit, who had to listen calmly. Aside from the Indian captain, several other Indian players shook their heads in dissatisfaction with Rana's attempt.
“Dimaag kidhar hai tera,” Rohit Sharma can be heard saying to Rana while pointing to his head.
