Harshit Rana opened up on the advice he got from India skipper Rohit Sharma which helped the pacer to make a comeback during the first ODI against England in Nagpur on Thursday (February 6).

Featuring in his debut ODI, Harshit conceded 11 runs in the first over and followed it with a maiden. The right-arm quick was then taken to the cleaners by his former KKR teammate Phil Salt as his figures read 37 runs in 3 overs.

However, Harshit bounced back strongly as he dismissed Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in the same over, before capping off his spell with the wicket of Liam Livingstone.

The debutant returned with the figures of 3 for 53 from 7 overs, helping India bundled out England for 248 in 47.4 overs.

Speaking at the innings break, Harshit said his aim was to keep bowling at a consistent length and he was looking to maintain it despite being hit for runs.

"The main motivation was to keep bowling at a consistent length. Initially, they attacked my bowling, but I didn’t move away from my length, and eventually, I was rewarded for it," Harshit told the broadcasters.

Harshit revealed that Rohit told him to bowl as tight as possible and not give the England batters any room.

"They were just looking for room. Their only chance to free their arms and attack was when they got some space. So, that’s what Rohit Bhaiya and I discussed—that I should bowl as tight as possible. And that’s what I tried to do," he remarked.

Harshit felt the wicket was a double-paced one. "It’s a bit of a double-paced wicket. Some balls are kicking up suddenly, while others are stopping a bit," he stated.

In the last three months, Harshit Rana has made his India debut across all formats of the game and the pacer was delighted with this feat.

"I mean, it's a dream life, but I have worked really hard for this, so it feels like I am finally reaping the rewards of that effort," he concluded.
