The first ODI between India and England will be played at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium on February 6, 2025. The other two ODIs in the series will be played on February 9 in Cuttack and February 12 in Ahmedabad.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first on a perfect pitch in Nagpur. England has announced their playing XI on the eve of the match that sees Ben Duckett and Phil Salt opening the innings.
Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone make up the middle order. Jacob Bethell and Brydon Carse will be lower-order finishers, while Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood are the pacers with Adil Rashid being the lone specialist spinner.
Coming to the Indian playing XI, Rohit Sharma revealed that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana will make their ODI debuts for India. While Harshit Rana will partner Mohammad Shami in the pacer department, Yashasvi Jaiswal has come into the side in place of Virat Kohli.
“We wanted to bowl first, but it doesn't matter a lot. Need to be aggressive with the ball at the start and then need to do well later. Nice to get some time off, it's a fresh start and this is a great chance to do well. It's very important to get some game time, an try and maximize whatever opportunity we have. Jaiswal and Harshit are making their debuts, unfortunately, Virat isn't playing, he had a knee problem last night,” Rohit Sharma said at the toss.
The BCCI put out a post on X and confirmed that Virat Kohli had a knee issue and hence was giving the first ODI a miss.
“Virat Kohli was unavailable for selection for the 1st ODI due to a sore right knee,” BCCI posted.
