“Could have been 3-2 to us,” Ollie Robinson says 4-1 scoreline not a true reflection of England’s display on India Test tour

After winning the series opener, England went down in the next four Tests against India.

England lost the Test series 4-1 against India | GettyDuring the recently held five-Test tour of India, England won the series opener in Hyderabad by 28 runs. However, the visitors went down in the next three matches in Vizag, Rajkot and Ranchi to concede the series.

While the Three Lions were somewhat competitive in the second, third and fourth Tests, they were totally outplayed in the series finale in Dharamsala, losing the match by an innings and 64 runs.

The humiliating 4-1 series loss marked a significant setback for England's previously heralded ultra-aggressive 'Bazball' approach, which has been their winning mantra since 2022.

However, England pacer Ollie Robinson believes that the 4-1 scoreline was not a true reflection of their performances on the tour of India.

“We were really close to reversing that result. Obviously a catch I dropped in the fourth Test would have helped us but, no, we feel like 4-1 was undeserved really,” Robinson, who played only one Test in the series, said while speaking on Sky Sports.

“We played some really good cricket and maybe on another tour it could have been 3-2 to us, who knows?” he added.

Despite the underwhelming results in the home Ashes and the tour of India, Robinson expressed confidence in England’s aggressive brand of cricket under the regime of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

England are currently languishing at the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, featuring nine teams.

“The brand of cricket that we’re playing is really good to watch for fans and good to play in,” Robinson said.

“I think we’re really close to being the best in the world, to be honest. A few one percenters here and there and we can really dominate the world of cricket.”

England’s next Test assignment is scheduled against the West Indies at home in July.
