In the current fourth Test between India and England in Ranchi, sparks flew between James Anderson and Rohit Sharma. After Sharma hit a six off Anderson's bowling, there was a verbal altercation a few overs later, which led to the incident.
England made 353 at Ranchi and reduced India to 177-7, but the hosts recovered strongly to post 307 and bowl out the tourists for 145 on the third day. Chasing 192, the Indian openers made 40-0 in the eight overs before stumps.
Ben Stokes opened the bowling with James Anderson and Shoaib Bashir on the fourth morning.
Rohit had been active with his footwork on a Ranchi pitch that offered variable bounce. On the third evening, he had taken overpitched balls from Tom Hartley on the full and played them to the mid-wicket fence.
Facing James Anderson, Rohit Sharma showed his class as he stepped out to the pacer and played an audacious flick over the fielder. The shot had some risk in it but with true bounce, the ball soared into the stands for the first six of the Indian innings.

This didn’t sit well with James Anderson, who seethed after being hit for a six. Things came to a head when Anderson bowled his next over, the 13th of the innings. The ball nipped in took an inside edge off Sharma’s thigh pad and rolled towards the leg side. While Sharma initially seemed unsure about the run, his partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, took off for a single.
Rohit Sharma, realizing the situation belatedly, sprinted for the crease, just managing to make his ground.
This led to Anderson saying some words to the Indian captain and Rohit Sharma said something in return as well. The expressions on both men's faces made it evident that it wasn't just a hello or a good morning, with Ravi Shastri summing up the incident perfectly.
"Just as he reached the other end, some words were exchanged between Anderson and Rohit Sharma. Positive it's not pleasantries. You always try to seize any advantage that you can, get inside the opponent's skin – be it a batter or a bowler," the former India coach said on air.
