Playing his second Test, the off-spinner picked up four wickets (4/84) as the Three Lions reduced the hosts to 219/7 after posting 353 in their first innings.

Bashir took the wickets of Shubman Gill (38), Rajat Patidar (17), Ravindra Jadeja (12) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (73) to give England an edge over India in the penultimate Test.

While Shoaib Bashir impressed one and all with his bowling display, he also grabbed the headlines for his funny exchange with India batter Sarfaraz while batting.

Bashir came in to bat at number 10 following the dismissal of Ollie Robinson. He failed to open his account in the two deliveries that he faced and was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.

During his brief stay in the middle, Sarfaraz poked fun at Bashir as he talked about his Hindi. “Arey yaar, ise toh pata hai kaise khelna hai. Ise Hindi bhi aati hai badhiya (Guys, he knows how to play and knows Hindi),” stump mic caught Sarfaraz as saying.

In response, Bashir hilariously said, “Aati hai thodi thodi (I know Hindi a little bit).”
