Starting February 15, 2024, this match will be contested in the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Saurashtra.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting-friendly track. England, however, got off to a good start. Mark Wood had Yashasvi Jaiswal caught in the slips for ten runs before dismissing Shubman Gill for a duck nine balls later.

Rajat Patidar looked good, but Tom Hartley took his wicket for just 5 runs, reducing India to 33/3 after 9 overs. However, skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had been elevated up the order, took the fight to England bowlers.

The duo added a brilliant 204 runs for the fourth wicket. Rohit Sharma hit his 11th Test century and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed well, as England bowlers were made to toil hard on a batting-friendly surface in Rajkot.

Rohit Sharma, in particular, was very calculative in his approach and even got a few chances in the field. He was dropped on 27 when an outside edge induced by spinner Tom Hartley evaded a diving Joe Root at first slip.

Sharma hit his 11th century in Test cricket and finally fell to Mark Wood on 131 runs, which came in 197 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes to his name.

At 36 years, 291 days, Rohit also became the oldest Indian captain to record an international hundred, eclipsing the record held by Vijay Hazare (at 36 years 278 days v England in 1951).

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity was all praises for a brilliant captain’s knock by Rohit Sharma in Rajkot.
