The Indian camp had reasons to smile on Sunday (February 11) as KL Rahul hit the nets ahead of the third Test against England in Rajkot, starting from February 15.
Rahul, who missed the second Test in Vizag due to a quadricep injury, has been added to India’s squad along with Ravindra Jadeja for the remaining three Tests. However, their participation is subject to fitness clearance from BCCI's medical team.
"The national selection committee included senior players Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul in the squad but their inclusion will be subject to clearance by the BCCI's medical team," the board had said in its official squad release.
Taking to his Instagram story, KL Rahul shared a video of him batting in the nets, days ahead of the Rajkot Test.
Coming to the Indian squad, star batter Virat Kohli remained unavailable for the remainder of the series due to ‘personal reasons’.
In Kohli's absence, Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar retained their place in the side while middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was a notable absentee in the squad.
The rest of the squad was pretty much the same. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal feature in the side as openers, followed by Shubman Gill.
KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel are the two designated wicketkeepers in the squad, also including R Ashwin, Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav as spinning options.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar are among the four fast bowlers in the team. Bengal pacer Akash Deep have been added to the squad in place of Avesh Khan for the remaining three Tests.
After the first two Tests, the series is evenly poised at 1-1. While England won the series opener in Hyderabad by 28 runs, the hosts bounced back to win the second Test in Vizag by 106 runs.
