Shreyas Iyer might not have done well with the bat in the ongoing Vizag Test between India and England, but he made a huge contribution with his fielding. On day four, his brilliant throw caught England captain Ben Stokes short of the crease and he had to go back.
England started day four on 67/1 and soon lost Rehan Ahmed to Akshar Patel for 23 runs. R Ashwin then struck twice to get Ollie Pope for 23 and Joe Root for 10 runs. After a small partnership with Stokes, Bairstow was also back in the pavilion for 26 runs, dismissed LBW off Bumrah.
The main wicket of Ben Stokes still eluded India and he was not in his usual destructive mood. He was playing for time as wickets fell around him. However, his dismissal didn’t come as he’d hoped.
On the 4th ball of the 53rd over, the ball went to the leg side off Ben Foakes’ inside edge and the batters took off for a single. Ben Stokes took it too easy and was jogging until he saw Shreyas Iyer pouncing on the ball from short mid-wicket.
Iyer swooped on the ball in one swift motion, picked it, and hit the only stump visible to him.
Stokes tried to hurry in the end, but replays showed that he was well short of the crease and was run out for 11 runs.
