Shubman Gill shared his joy in overcoming a prolonged struggle and scoring a much-needed century, especially in the presence of his father, during the ongoing second Test against England in Vizag.

After a breakthrough century that marked his return to form, Gill revealed that his father's advice to trust and back his instincts helped him to end a 12-inning drought of low scores.

Notably, the right-handed batter’s father was present in the stands to witness his son's stunning innings, adding a special touch to the moment, and Gill was delighted to be able to overcome the slump.

In a video posted by BCCI on X, Shubman Gill said: “It is really satisfying and pleasing. He is someone who has always supported me and seen my journey. It was great to score runs in front of him. My father told me to back my instincts and play the way I am playing.”

Gill mentioned that the initial 15-20 minutes of his innings felt tense, as he narrowly escaped two close calls. He also highlighted the significance of luck during the tough time.

The Indian star added, “It feels good. The first 15-20 minutes were tense, with two referrals going my way. But I think when you are not scoring runs for three to four matches, you need that bit of luck. I think I got that. I am very happy that I was able to convert it into a hundred.”

On being asked to sum up his inning in one word, Gill said: "Pleasing."

The Punjab lad also stressed that the patience played a big role in him scoring century in Vizag.

Gill signed off by saying, “But it is important to stay true to yourself, your basics and what got you here. If you change your way of play, it is only going to prolong your best innings and best chance to get your big one.”
