IND v ENG 2024: WATCH - Ashwin's act at non-striker’s end left Anderson annoyed, England pacer complains to umpire

Anderson was seemingly annoyed by Ashwin’s position at the non-striker’s end.

Ashwin and Anderson were involved in a heated incident | ScreengrabR Ashwin and James Anderson were involved in an exchange of words on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and England in Visakhapatnam.

The England seamer, who bowled the second over of the day after the visitors took the new ball, was seemingly annoyed by Ashwin’s position at the non-striker’s end. The veteran off-spinner was also seen stretching his arms when Anderson was bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal.

This put Anderson off and he had to pull out from his run-up. After bowling four deliveries, a visibly frustrated Anderson complained to the umpire, possibly suggesting that Ashwin was in in his line while he was bowling by standing close to the stumps.

The two also stared at each other and exchanged words when the English quick pulled out from his run-up.

Here’s the video:

James Anderson, however, had the last laugh as he dismissed R Ashwin for 20 a few overs later. After being clipped for a four by Ashwin in the second ball of the 101st over, Anderson produced a wobble seam delivery to find the edge of the former’s bat.

Ben Foakes completed an easy catch behind the stumps and the umpire raised his finger. While Ashwin opted for a review, replays confirmed that the ball had indeed taken an edge and travelled behind to the English wicketkeeper.
