It was Yashasvi Jaiswal's day as he displayed an impressive performance for India in the ongoing second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2.

Batting through the entire 93 overs of the day, Jaiswal displayed a mature approach, changing gears and unsettling the bowlers to finish unbeaten on 179. This marks his second Test hundred and his best individual score in his career, surpassing his debut score of 171 against the West Indies.

While no other Indian batter managed to score more than 34, Yashasvi smashed 17 boundaries and five maximums during his stellar 257-ball knock on the opening day of the second Test in Vizag. He was also involved in some crucial partnerships to help India finish Day 1 at 336/6 against England.

At the end of the day, Yashasvi said that he only focused on approaching session by session when the wickets were falling at the other end. Now, the youngster hopes to score his maiden double century on Day 2 in the ongoing second Test against England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal told Sports 18: “I wanted to play it session by session. When they were bowling well, I just wanted to get through that spell. Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls, and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team. I want to recover well for tomorrow now.”

He signed off by saying, “The pitch played a bit differently, in the morning it was a bit damp and then it settled. With the older ball, there was some bounce. Rahul sir and Rohit bhai kept giving me the confidence and told me to convert this into a big innings, and stay till the end.”
