India captain Rohit Sharma came in for some heavy criticism for his incredibly poor shot on day one of the 1st Test against England in Hyderabad, which got underway on January 25, 2024.
Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bat first. He also top-scored with 70 as India bowled England out for 246 in 64.3 overs. The other scorers for England were Jonny Bairstow (37), Ben Duckett (35) and Joe Root (29).
For India, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin took 3 wickets apiece, while Akshar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah took two each.
In response, India ended the day on 119/1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal on 76* in 70 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes and Shubman Gill on 14*. The only wicket to fall from the Indian team was that of captain Rohit Sharma for 24.

In the 13th over of the innings, Rohit Sharma tried to hit Jack Leach for a six straight down the ground but only managed to hit the toe end of the bat and the ball ballooned up in the air. Ben Stokes, ran back from mid-on to complete a simple catch.
This unnecessary shot by Rohit Sharma and gifting his wicket away when India had made 80 runs in around 13 overs didn’t sit well with the Indian cricket team fans on social media. He was criticized a lot for his dismissal on X.
