Former South African captain AB de Villers shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s decision to withdraw from the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match Test series against England at home.

Kohli pulled out of the first two Tests against England, citing personal reasons, and the BCCI asked the fans to respect the Indian batter’s privacy. However, the reason is still under wraps, and De Villers said that he will surely get to know the reason soon, but won’t reveal it for the sake of his friendship.

Kohli and Proteas great share a great bond, thanks to their stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the IPL. Even after De Villers’ retirement, he and Indian star are still very good friends.

Reacting to the call, the legendary batter De Villers said that Kohli must have taken the decision due to a “very good reason” and hinted at the “family stuff” while stressing how important their friendship is to him.

AB de Villiers said on his YouTube Channel:No one knows what has happened yet. I am sure we will get to know soon. If Virat talks about personal reasons, there must be a very good reason for that. Maybe he is also tired. He has been playing a lot of cricket. Could be family stuff. I will find out soon but I won't tell you guys. His friendship is too important to me.”

On being asked whether ‘Bazball’ will work in India, the South Africa great said: “I feel Bazball, or any attacking brand of cricket in Indian conditions will work very well. It can work in any rough conditions. In the Newlands with the ball moving around, who scored?”

De Villiers signed off by saying, “Aiden Markram and a few Indian batters who took the attack to the opposition. Players who are conservative generally struggle.”
