India pacer Mohammed Siraj was seen in an angry altercation with Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on day 4 of the first Test that was played in Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on September 22, 2024.
India had posted 287/4d on day three of the Test match, setting Bangladesh a target of 515 runs. Bangladesh managed to reach 158/4 at the end of the day’s play.
And Bangladesh captain Shanto was among the select Bangladesh batters who played impressively in the second innings. He made 82 runs apart from gritty knocks by openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam.
However, Bangladesh was skittled out for 234 runs and lost the Test by 280 runs. R Ashwin picked 6/88 and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets as well.
Meanwhile, during day 4, Mohammed Siraj’s aggression was on full display. Siraj, known for his fiery attitude with both the ball and his words, was visibly angry when Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto pulled him for a four down the leg side.
The short ball had been helped along to the fine leg boundary, and Siraj, dissatisfied with the outcome, tried to upset Shanto with a few harsh words and a pointed finger.
Despite Siraj's attempts to unsettle him, Shanto maintained his composure and chose not to engage in the verbal exchange. This didn't deter Siraj, who continued to sledge Shanto after another delivery in the over.
